Sewcialist Blog Voices ....

Thursday 22 August 2013

(You may have to click through to the blog post if you're in the Feedly App for some reason, sorry!)

I'm joining into the Blog meme that is spreading around (See Lady Katza, The Seeds of 3, Three Dresses, Sew Exhausted). I know you guys got a sneak preview of my voice if you follow me on Instagram (vintageinkfairy if you are interested - but don't all rush at once, I'm not a very active Instagram-er as of yet, but I'm getting better).

So, background. Born and raised in the country in Ireland (Southern/Republic of). Tipperary to be exact, and yes, it is a long way. Har Har

I have lived in the UK for almost 4 years. I don't think my accent has changed but I have definitely adjusted the words that I use for things and how I describe things. I think it is slightly less strong when I haven't bee home for a while.

I have recently had people asking me if I am American, or more often Canadian, which I find most peculiar... But I did hear it in another Irish person recently on the TV so maybe there's something odd in it? Or maybe all the Canadians at work are worming their way in..

Anywho, here goes....

List of Words: Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

List of Questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

  2. I really love how you sound. You too have that leaning toward the "newscaster non accent" until you say certain words. I especially can tell with the "er" and the "t".

Odd thing, when I worked with the Renaissance Festivals here in Georgia (its a thing in the US, don't judge us), when I would try to fake a Scottish accent it would always end up being super southern instead.

  3. Well! I suppose that's the equivalent of "hey!" where I'm from.

I've never heard of a remote being called a "zapper" - interesting and so descriptive. I like it. =)

I would never have guessed Ireland. You do have a very North American sound, but I probably would have asked out of curiosity if I didn't know you were from the UK. You have a very pleasant tone to your voice.

  8. Thanks for joining in! It's fabulous hearing people from around the world. I didn't realize Americans are the only people that TP. It makes sense when you think about the housing but it makes me feel bad... we're so naughty...
